West Coast named midfielder Brayden Ainsworth and forward Jarrod Cameron for their first games of the season, replacing injured pair Luke Shuey and Jamaine Jones.

Geelong defeated Brisbane in Sydney, the first in a round of games in which no team was to play in its home State.

Collingwood comfortably accounted for Hawthorn in Western Sydney.

West Coast shrugged off a winless Adelaide at the Gabba to record back-to-back wins ahead of the team's long-awaited return to Western Australia. Tim Kelly played his best game as an Eagle with 24 touches and eight clearances and Dom Sheed also had 24 possessions in the absence of skipper Shuey.

In other matches, Fremantle won a thriller over St Kilda on the Gold Coast, Melbourne beat Gold Coast in Sydney and Essendon defeated North Melbourne in Queensland.

Sunday 12 July[]

Port Adelaide beat GWS Giants on the Gold Coast, Richmond won a low-scoring, dour encounter with Sydney in Brisbane and Carlton thrashed Western Bulldogs in the fourth game to be played at Carrara for the round.

The AFL announced another round of fixtures, with West Coast hosting Collingwood on the Sunday of round 8.

West Coast revealed that Jack Petruccelle had suffered a hamstring injury in a scrimmage against Brisbane's reserves, which was likely to keep him out of action for at least five weeks. In better news, Shuey was a chance of being available for Sunday's Derby, while Jones was about a week behind.
