Thursday 28 July[]

West Coast sprang some surprises at the selection table, most notably including the forgotten Simon Tunbridge who was promoted from the rookie-list earlier in the day. Will Schofield and Mark Hutchings were also recalled while midfielder Dom Sheed was named for his first game of the year. Promising key defender Tom Barrass was rested, while Jonathan Giles and Jackson Nelson were squeezed out and Jack Redden was omitted with a shoulder injury. Malcolm Karpany travelled to Melbourne after being named as an emergency for the first time in his three-year career. Despite speculation he would be named, Nic Naitanui was given another week in his return from Achilles surgery.

Friday 29 July[]

Geelong defeated Western Bulldogs.

Saturday 30 July[]

West Coast suffered a disappointing loss to Collingwood, continuing their poor run at the MCG. The Eagles fought back from a half-time deficit to hit the front early in the final term, but Collingwood steadied to record a surprise 19-point win. Jack Darling kicked four goals and Andrew Gaff had 35 touches.

Hawthorn beat Carlton, GWS Giants thrashed Richmond, North Melbourne defeated St Kilda and Port Adelaide trounced Brisbane.

Sunday 31 July[]

Melbourne just pipped Gold Coast, Sydney demolished Fremantle in Matthew Pavlich's 350th game, and Adelaide defeated Essendon comfortably.

Monday 1 August[]

Tuesday 2 August[]

Naitanui was one of four players listed as being subject to a fitness test, along with Redden, Elliot Yeo (who was a late withdrawal against Collingwood with tonsillitis) and Mitch Brown who suffered a back injury in his last WAFL game. Fraser McInnes was still a week away from returning and Kurt Mutimer suffered a hamstring strain. In better news, Alec Waterman returned to the training track, although there was still no date set for his playing return.
