The club confirmed that Sheppard was in doubt for the rest of the season due to injury, although it was described as an ankle problem rather than a 'hotspot' in his foot as reported previously.

Bennell, Lycett, Hill, Cripps and Brennan were all on the plane to Adelaide. Sheppard and Smith were left behind.

Brennan and Tunbridge were left out when the teams were named, with Cox also an omission due to concussion - despite that, the veteran remained in Adelaide as the team's ruck coach.

West Coast defeated Adelaide in a high-scoring shootout in the side's first visit to Adelaide Oval.

Brisbane beat Melbourne, Hawthorn thrashed Western Bulldogs and Collingwood defeated Port Adelaide.
