West Coast named a 27-man squad for the pre-season match simulation against Fremantle, including ruckman Matt Flynn, draftees Harley Reid, Loch Rawlinson and Coen Livingstone and rookie forward Tyrell Dewar. Ex-Hawthorn forward Tyler Brockman (knee soreness) and premiership defender Jeremy McGovern (soreness) were among those left out.

Fremantle comfortably accounted for West Coast in match simulation, with the Eagles losing Reuben Ginbey to concussion during the second quarter in addition to Flynn being withdrawn before the bounce with hamstring tendon damage.

West Coast confirmed that Flynn had undergone surgery on what was described as a "unique" injury to his hamstring tendon, suffered during the captain's run on Friday.
