The AFL announced the times for the floating final-round fixture, with West Coast's home game against St Kilda set down for the Saturday evening.

The match committee responded to the side's poor showing against Gold Coast by dropping Josh Hill and Mark Hutchings. The duo was replaced by veterans Sam Butler and Patrick McGinnity, while young defender Tom Barrass made way for the returning Jeremy McGovern.

Nic Naitanui withdrew from the game against Hawthorn after his mother passed away in Fiji, with Scott Lycett called up for his first game in months.
Adelaide beat Richmond.

West Coast went down to Hawthorn by 14 points in a wet and windy battle at Subiaco. To add injury to insult, McGovern appeared to suffer a recurrence of his hamstring injury and Mark LeCras was reported for a bump on James Frawley.
Collingwood defeated Carlton, Western Bulldogs thrashed Port Adelaide, Gold Coast beat Brisbane and Geelong upset Sydney.

North Melbourne beat Melbourne, GWS Giants defeated Essendon and Fremantle moved two and a half games clear on top after easily accounting for St Kilda.

LeCras was offered a one-week ban for rough conduct on Frawley, his third charge of the season.
Tuesday 11 August[]
LeCras accepted his ban, ruling him out of the derby.
Naitanui and McGovern were also confirmed to miss the top-of-the-table match, with the former still in Fiji and the latter out for 2-3 weeks with a hamstring. Sinclair and Xavier Ellis were also in doubt with both facing fitness tests.
