West Coast swung the axe, with Tim Kelly, Tom Cole, Noah Long and Tyler Brockman all dropped following the poor showing against the Giants. The high-profile omission of Kelly had been reported in the media the previous day, with the former Cat having returned to Perth for family reasons while most of his teammates traveled to Adelaide, and then not booked on a flight back. Lucca Grego put his hand up for an AFL debut with a team-high 23 possesions and five tackles, while fellow draftee Jobe Shanahan kicked three goals from limited opportunities.

Collingwood defeated Sydney.

West Coast suffered another heavy defeat to start 2025, this time succumbing to Carlton in a Gather Round clash. Both sides squandered a number of chances but the Blues generated enough of them (73 inside 50s) that it didn't matter, kicking the final six goals of the game to blow the margin beyond 70. Liam Baker had a team-high 23 possesions and fellow ex-Tiger Jack Graham had 20 disposals to go with nine tackles.

Gold Coast comfortably accounted for North Melbourne, Brisbane beat Western Bulldogs and Essendon kept Melbourne winless.
