West Coast made four changes to the side, with Luke Shuey returning from injury and Zane Trew and Luke Foley coming in for their first games of the season, while Connor West was promoted after being the substitute. Elliot Yeo (adductor) and young pair Noah Long and Brady Hough (undisclosed injuries) could not be considered, while Xavier O'Neill was dropped. Potential debutant Harry Barnett flew to his hometown as cover for Bailey Williams, who had a suspect hamstring.

The club also confirmed that premiership defender Will Schofield had agreed to come out of retirement to help out the reserves, who were struggling to field a side.

West Coast had another "honourable" but heavy loss, going down by 40 points to Port Adelaide in Adelaide. Jai Culley kicked four goals in an unfamiliar forward role, and Williams overcame his injury cloud to record 13 clearances and 37 hitouts, but Shuey failed to complete the match after injuring an ankle.

Brisbane overcame GWS Giants and Geelong thrashed Sydney.

Sunday 23 April[]

West Coast's reserves were thumped by East Fremantle, with only a third-quarter fightback saving them from a second-straight record defeat. The returning Callum Jamieson had 17 disposals and 26 hitouts.

Adelaide narrowly beat Hawthorn, St Kilda defeated Carlton and Gold Coast comfortably accounted for North Melbourne.

Collingwood defeated Essendon in an Anzac Day classic.
