West Coast rushed back reinforcements, with Luke Shuey, Elliot Yeo, Tim Kelly and Jamie Cripps returning from injury and defenders Josh Rotham and Harry Edwards and ruckman Bailey Williams recalled. Nic Naitanui (knee), Luke Edwards (groin), Jeremy McGovern (health protocols) and Connor West (injured) could not be considered, while Jake Waterman, Xavier O'Neill and Brady Hough also made way.

Brisbane narrowly defeated Collingwood.

West Coast were humiliated at home by Sydney in a Good Friday clash, taking almost an entire half to get on the scoreboard and slumping to their biggest ever defeat at Perth Stadium. Tom Barrass stood up in defence and Liam Ryan kicked three goals.

Western Bulldogs thrashed North Melbourne.

Saturday 16 April[]

West Coast narrowly lost to Perth in the opening round of the WAFL, with a masterclass from Perth skipper Fraser McInnes in the final quarter getting the Demons over the line. Waterman (two goals, 18 possesions) and O'Neill (27 possessions) were among their side's best.

St Kilda defeated Gold Coast, Adelaide beat Richmond and Melbourne thumped GWS Giants.

Carlton held off a fast-finishing Port Adelaide and Fremantle beat Essendon.

Hawthorn won a Easter Monday classic against Geelong.

West Coast published a deflating injury update, with Oscar Allen (foot) and Tom Joyce (ankle) suffering setbacks and Andrew Gaff (ankle) still a week away. In better news, young midfielders Luke Edwards (groin) and Connor West (hip) were expected to be able to resume on the weekend.
