(85th Eagles player)
Hailing from the South-West town of Harvey, Derek Hall was a strong-marking but undersized key forward who was also capable of playing as a big-bodied midfielder.
West Coast career[]
Hall led West Perth’s goalkicking in 1990 as a 19-year-old before being drafted by West Coast. Owing to the strength of the club at the time, he was forced to wait nearly three full years before making his debut late in the 1993 season. Hall kicked a goal on debut against the Tigers and two against the Bears the following week before being dropped back to the WAFL.
At the end of the season the club was forced to pare back its list from 52 to 42, and Hall was one of the unlucky ones to miss the cut.
Geelong career[]
After winning the Falcons’ goalkicking a second time in 1994, Hall was picked up by Geelong in the pre-season draft and spent six years with the Cats, kicking 74 goals in 74 games. During this time he represented WA in State of Origin in 1996 and again in 1998.
Post-AFL career[]
After leaving the Cats Hall returned to WA and played 3 seasons at Peel Thunder, winning their best and fairest twice. He then headed back to Victoria to coach in country football.
Hall's son Clay was drafted by the Eagles in 2023.
