Daniel McConnell was a big-bodied midfielder from Victoria who spent two seasons at West Coast.
West Coast career[]
Drafted as a 17 year old, he spent 2004 finishing his schooling and playing for East Perth. He forced his way into the side in round 8 of 2005 after strong form in the pre-season and in the WAFL. Unfortunately, he was struck down by glandular fever in the second half of the season.
At the end of the year, after managing just two senior games the homesick McConnell requested a trade back to Victoria. North Melbourne showed a keen interest and so McConnell moved to Arden Street while West Coast moved up in the draft, enabling them to pick up Shannon Hurn and Ben McKinley.
North Melbourne career[]
McConnell fared little better in the blue and white, managing just four more games at AFL level before being delisted at the end of the 2007 season.
Post-AFL career[]
After a stint in the VFL with North's affiliate, the North Ballarat Roosters, and an aborted return to WA with West Perth, McConnell played for Croydon and Norwood in the Eastern Football League in suburban Melbourne.
