Victorian speedster Coby Burgiel was West Coast's fourth pick in the 2022 national draft.
West Coast career[]
The son of former Hawthorn draftee and Maffra legend Hayden Burgiel, Coby played for Vic Country and Gippsland Power before starring at the draft combine with the third-fastest sprint time. On being drafted, he was described as speedy and versatile with the ability to play a number of positions.[1]
Burgiel's first season was wrecked by repeated hamstring injuries, the Gippsland product managing just three WAFL games. He had a better run of it in 2024 but struggled for form in the WAFL. Starting in the backline, he moved up to a wing and then to the forward line, but rarely had an impact.
