Charlie Thomas has become a star defender since being taken as West Coast's first pick in the 2021 draft.

West Coast career[]

Despite missing most of the 2021 season with a wrist injury, the Subiaco product was considered highly enough to be the first selected out of the Western Australian pool. On being drafted, she was described as being composed under pressure and possessing a strong football knowledge.[1]

Thomas had a strong first season, playing every game and standing out as a rare bright spark in a dismal Eagles campaign. Used in defence and through the midfield, she looked poised despite her inexperience and was rewarded with the Best First Year Player award. Thomas settled down back the following season, impressing as an intercept defender, and finished fourth in the Best and Fairest, before a stellar 2023 in which she was named the club champion and became the first Eagle named in the AFLW All-Australian team.
