A tall, rangy forward, Chad Jones, the brother of premiership defender Brett Jones, played a handful of games for West Coast after being rookie-listed in 2007.

North Melbourne career[]

Originally from Claremont, Chad Jones was drafted by North Melbourne in 2003 and spent three seasons with the Roos. He managed just six senior games and spending the majority of his time playing VFL for Port Melbourne and the Tassie Devils.

West Coast career[]

Delisted at the end of 2006, West Coast reunited him with big brother Brett via the rookie draft. After strong form for Claremont, he was promoted off the rookie list and made his debut against Adelaide at Football Park mid-season, impressing as a key forward target. Cones kicked three goals against the Crows and the following week took 8 marks against Brisbane (but only managed 4 behinds). He played four games all up in 2007 and it was enough to earn him promotion to the senior list for the following year.

Jones started 2008 in the WAFL but earned a call-up after kicking 15 goals in three weeks for the Tigers. He performed reasonably, kicking another bag of 3 in a loss to the Bulldogs, but injured an ankle at training and then was unable to force his way back into the side in the second half of the season. A little surprisingly, he was delisted at the end of the 2008 season.

Post-AFL career[]

Cones continued on at Claremont (reportedly turning down an offer to try out for a spot on Freo’s list), winning back to back Bernie Naylor Medals as the WAFL’s leading goalscorer in 2009 and 2010, and then back-to-back premiership medals in 2011 and 2012. He retired at the end of the 2013 season and took a position as an assistant coach with the Western Bulldogs' new standalone reserves side in the VFL.
