(88th Eagles player)
A giant lump of a key forward from Jerramungup, Brett Spinks was another player who struggled for opportunities during the 90s and ended up going elsewhere in search of a regular game.
West Coast career[]
Drafted late in the 1992 national draft (cousin Jason, who would later join him on the Eagles list, had been grabbed by Sydney in the top 10), he spent his first season in the WAFL but got his chance in the seniors early in 1994. He ended up playing 15 games including an elimination final against Collingwood, but missed out on a guernsey in the grand final.
Chances proved elusive over the next three seasons as Spinks played just 6 senior games and by 1998 he had moved to Geelong to seek more opportunities.
Geelong career[]
Spinks’ first season in Sleepy Hollow was the best of his career as he kicked 35 goals (more than twice as many as he managed in his time at the Eagles). Unfortunately for him, a hip injury kept him out of the side for the whole 1999 season and ultimately forced him to retire.
