(78th Eagles player)
A bit of a footballing journeyman, Brendan Krummel commenced his AFL career at West Coast before moving on to Fremantle and then Hawthorn.
West Coast career[]
A versatile wingman-flanker from East Fremantle, Krummel was a late selection in the 1991 national draft and managed to earn a debut against Richmond in his rookie season, although he barely got off the bench. Krummel spent the majority of the year with the Sharks, where he played in their premiership side.
1993 started promisingly, with Krummel picking up 17 possessions in round 1 and playing seven games in the first half of the season. He was then forced out of the side, partly by the return of Chris Mainwaring from injury, and played out the year at East Freo. After a frustrating run in 1994, when he missed the early part of the season through injury and managed only one senior game, he signed up for the inaugural Fremantle squad. West Coast received a compensation pick which they used to pick up young Victorian Chad Morrison.
Fremantle and Hawthorn career[]
Krummel played in Fremantle’s first-ever game against Richmond, but more injury worries meant he did not appear again in the purple, red and green. He was delisted at the end of the 1995 season but his former Sharks coach Ken Judge thought he was worth using a top-5 pick on, and Krummel became a Hawk. He played 64 games in five seasons at Hawthorn, starting as a defender before becoming a clever forward, but his time at Hawthorn is chiefly remembered for being on the receiving end of one of the most brutal Byron Pickett shirtfronts ever seen. Krummel continued to suffer from regular injury concerns, and retired during the 2000 season.
