(92nd Eagles player)
Despite being the latest-ever pick in the national draft, Lyle went on to have a reasonably successful career.
West Coast career[]
A midfielder capable of racking up some big numbers, Lyle spent the majority of his early years in the WAFL like so many of his teammates in the early 90s. He eventually broke through to make his league debut in 1995, and ended up playing 15 games for the year. His 1995 season included back-to-back Brownlow-polling efforts as well as two finals appearances.
He struggled a little in 1996, being dropped back to East Perth mid-season and playing just 11 senior games for the year.
At the end of the season, Lyle along with fellow former Magpie Shane Bond were traded back to their old club for a late draft pick. The convoluted deal also included the popular Ian Downsborough being signed by Port Adelaide as a free agent and West Coast receiving the #1 pick which was used on Michael Gardiner.
Port Adelaide career[]
Lyle was named Port’s vice-captain for their inaugural season, and ended up playing 90 games for the Power between 1997 and 2001.
