Unfashionable key defender Beau Wilkes spent four years on the rookie list before getting a debut, going on to play 23 games. He later was picked up by St Kilda (where he changed his name to Beau Maister).

West Coast career[]

A strongly-built key position player, Beau Wilkes spent the Eagles' two grand final years on the rookie list. The club was forced to delist him after 2006, but gave him a third season and then a fourth after he showed good form with Claremont, particularly with his ability to swing forward and provide a target.

In his fourth season, in the midst of a horror run by the side, he was given a debut after compelling form at Claremont. He performed well, holding his spot in the side for the remainder of the season and being rewarded by permanent promotion to the senior list for 2009.

He wasn't able to take full advantage, however, with injury delaying his start to the 2009 season. Wilkes was only able to force his way into the senior side for three games late in the year. He had another stint of six games midway through 2010 but found himself behind youngsters Eric MacKenzie and Will Schofield in the pecking order, and was delisted at the end of the year.

St Kilda career[]

Wilkes continued to play for Claremont in 2011, winning the Simpson Medal after kicking five goals in the grand final win over Subiaco. St Kilda were suitably impressed and picked him up late in the 2011 draft. He played 21 games in three years at the Saints, generally as a forward, before retiring during the 2014 season. Wilkes legally changed his surname to Maister, his mother's maiden name, prior to the 2013 season.[1]

Post-AFL career[]

Maister returned to Claremont for the 2015 season, bringing up 150 games as a Tiger before retiring midway through 2018[2] and joining country side Lancelin-Ledge Point.[3]
