Former St Kilda and Gold Coast player Andrew McQualter was appointed as West Coast coach ahead of the 2025 season.
Playing career[]
Originally from Traralgon in country Victoria, McQualter was drafted by the Saints in the first round of the 2004 draft from Gippsland Power. He played 89 games for St Kilda between 2005 and 2011, including the 2009 and 2010 Grand Finals (and the 2010 replay). After being delisted, he was picked up by Gold Coast and played five games in a single season.
Coaching career[]
After his AFL career ended, McQualter spent a decade climbing the coaching ranks at Richmond, starting as a development coach (and VFL player) in 2014. He was an assistant coach for the 2017, 2019 and 2020 premierships, and served as caretaker coach for the final 13 games in 2023 after the resignation of Damien Hardwick. McQualter lost out to Adem Yze in the race for the permanent job, and subsequently shifted to Melbourne for 2024.
McQualter was announced as the successor to Adam Simpson in September 2024.
