West Coast suffered another competitive but ultimately disappointing loss, falling to Richmond at Lathlain. The Eagles stayed in touch with the visitors for most of the match, and a stunning goal by skipper Emma Swanson narrowed the margin to a single goal in the final term, but the Tigers kicked two late goals to seal the points. Swanson had 19 touches and nine tackles to go with her clutch goal, and young defender Charlie Thomas continued her good form with 23 disposals and seven marks.

From the coach[]
"We gave them a head start in the first minute of the game giving up a 50-metre penalty, that didn’t help us, but we spoke about a couple of things at halftime that we thought if we get this right we will be in this. I thought we were able to turn it around in the second half. It was just some organisational stuff through our midfield and I thought to their credit they got that right. We scored the same amount after halftime, again we need to fix a few things in that second quarter.
"...I thought [Thomas] was outstanding tonight. Not just tonight as well, the last few weeks as well have been really good, so she’s got to be up there for Rising Star for sure. Tonight she grew another leg and took her career a little bit further and played with a bit of poise and a bit of polish. She’s really grown over that halfback role for us this year so she deserves anything that comes her way.
"...I think there are a few things we can get better at, to get more inside 50s, but at clearances we were dominant tonight other than centre clearance. But it’s that ball use, little bit of patience where we can build the ball up a little bit more then go inside 50. We didn’t get the mix right tonight, hence we were down 19 inside 50s, that makes it really hard to win and it makes it really hard on our defenders as well."[1]
From the papers[]
"West Coast midfielder COurtney Rowley gave the Eagles a fighting chance, kicking the opening goal of the third quarter four minutes in.
Then the Eagles locked down, keeping the visitors scoreless despite conceding 12 inside 50s for the term.
Charlie Thomas and Sophie McDonald took turns playing spare, cutting off several forays despite Richmond's consistent pressure.
It set the margin at 13 points with one quarter to play but the team's third Rising Star nomination in as many weeks could be on offer for Thomas."[2]
