West Coast suffered another disappointing loss to an expansion club, falling to Hawthorn in suburban Frankston. After kicking four goals in a dominant first term, the Eagles went to water in the second, failing to enter their forward 50 against the breeze as the Hawks took control of the match. Bella Lewis continued her strong form with a game-high 28 possessions, 10 tackles and a goal and Ella Roberts had 15 disposals, a couple of goal assists and her first career goal.

From the coach[]
"Really disappointing, we started the game well and played the brand of footy that we wanted to play and had a strong breeze that was going to our side of the ground. After the first quarter there was a number of things that went wrong. However you’ve got to pay full credit to Hawthorn, they had a crack tonight for the full four quarters and obviously they got the win.
"There was a number of things that contributed to the game. When Hawthorn had the breeze they seemed to score all their goals and when we had it the ball stayed in our front half. We needed to get back into the contest and really difficult coming into three quarter time and there was 19 to free kicks to six against. We needed to get a few more, there was a memo sent out during the week about sling tackles and we don’t pay them, so we need to look at that. There was a number of things that we could of done better as a team but so should others.
"I think it comes down to effort and intensity around the footy. We thought in patches we delivered, we also thought in parts we got beaten in that area. We changed things up in that last quarter and didn’t put any numbers behind the ball and we tried to run and carry the ball a bit more. We outscored them in the second half but really the damage was done from the second quarter. We had a couple of undisciplined free kicks where they were able to capitalize and hurt us."[1]
From the papers[]
"Emma Swanson, Mikayla Western, Ella Roberts and Bella Lewis all cashed in early as West Coast gained ground with speed, bravery to go through the corridor and some impressive handball chains.
The second quarter was a mirror image but in brown and gold, defender turned forward Jess Duffin kicking three goals as the Hawks ran rampant.
West Coast failed to go inside 50 for the entire term as Duffin read the breeze to perfection, kicking her first goal in 1,323 days and making the Eagles' two spare defenders accountable."[2]
