West Coast's quest for a win in 2022 continued with a heartbreaking loss to Geelong. The rusty Eagles, playing their first game in two weeks after Covid hit the playing squad, started slowly but worked their way back into the game and hit the front inside the last two minutes with an Aimee Schmidt goal, but Geelong replied instantly and then held on desperately, with the ball deep in West Coast's forward line as the siren sounded. Bella Lewis returned to form with 17 touches and seven tackles and Mikayla Bowen had 11 disposals and an important goal.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Eagles winger Mikayla Bowen got West Coast off to a fast start in the third quarter, tracking a loose ball inside 50 and completing a crafty checkside snap.

It sparked an inspired quarter from West Coast who held Geelong scoreless and created ample opportunities up forward but couldn’t land any further blows.

Swanson had the opportunity to put her side in front with a set shot just before the final break but pushed her kick wide, bringing the margin back to two points at the final break.

Webster kicked Geelong’s first goal and finished as one the Cats’ best, finishing with 20 touches and 11 tackles."[1]
