West Coast were overwhelmed by a strong Adelaide side, crashing to a third straight defeat to start the 2022 season. With the Eagles "hosting" the match at Melbourne's Punt Road Oval due to the WA border closure, West Coast were competitive in the first quarter but were gradually ground into the Richmond turf by their more experienced opponents. Parris Laurie thrived in a new role with 13 touches and seven marks.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"Off-season recruit Aimee Schmidt played a lone hand up forward, kicking West Coast’s only goal from a distance seven minutes into the first quarter in reply to Erin Phillips’ opener.

The Eagles went goalless after that, Adelaide constantly finding spares behind the ball to mop up West Coast’s forward forays.

For every ounce of effort West Coast poured into each contest, often it was sliced apart by the Crows precision kicking or Eagles errors at crucial moments.

West Coast’s midfield put in a much improved fight - even missing captain Emma Swanson through suspension - after being beaten the past two weeks."[1]
