Kicking off their second season with a home game, West Coast were competitive for a half against Crows but were overrun in the second half to fall to a heavy loss. In oppressive heat, the Eagles pulled within a goal before halftime but gave up four goals in a scoreless third term to lose touch with the visitors. Dana Hooker led the way as always with 19 possessions, and young winger Mikayla Bowen had 13 touches and kicked her side's first goal of the new season.

From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"The Eagles’ lack of talk and panic in congestion often hindered them from taking advantage of their clearance work.

But the biggest issue was their lack of structure forward of centre, with too many Eagles getting sucked into the contest, which meant they had few options when going on the attack.

Still it took some slices of luck for Adelaide to hit the scoreboard, with some fortunate bounces helping Chelsea Biddell and former Melbourne forward Ashleigh Woodland (two goals) kick first-quarter majors.

West Coast finally found some success in their slingshot-style of football in the second term thanks to the hard-running of Mikayla Bowen (13 disposals) and Niamh Kelly."[1]

The Queanbeyan Age[]

"The temperature was hovering at 34 degrees as the game started and it was Adelaide who applied the early heat with a series of strong tackles to take a 12-point lead into the first break.

The Eagles booted two goals during the second quarter, but forward Kellie Gibson missed the chance to close the gap even further when she missed from 15m out while running into an open goal.

West Coast were made to pay dearly in the third quarter as Adelaide tore the game apart.

Phillips kicked her first goal courtesy of a 50m penalty, but her second goal was all class, with the star onballer dummying on her right before snapping truly on her left."[2]
