West Coast's season started terribly and never recovered, with a spate of injuries during the pre-season followed by a Covid-related unavailability crisis that saw them having to draw on top-ups from other WAFL clubs just to field a team on multiple occasions. At the end of the season the club had used a record 47 players, including every available player on the playing list and six top-ups, and managed just two wins, the worst result in club history, avoiding the wooden spoon by mere percentage.

Amidst the carnage, Tom Barrass turned in a career-best season at fullback, holding back the dam wall on multiple occasions, while veterans Shannon Hurn, Jack Redden and Josh Kennedy were other strong contributors. Kennedy won an eighth club goalkicking award, sealing the title with a big haul in his final match before heading into retirement. Youngsters Brady Hough and Rhett Bazzo also impressed. Among the players to miss significant time were Dom Sheed, Elliot Yeo, Nic Naitanui, Jeremy McGovern, while Oscar Allen, Tom Cole and prized draftee Campbell Chesser missed the entire season.
