West Coast Eagles Wiki

West Coast had an active pre-season, sending 1994 premiership ruckman David Hynes across town to Freo for a top-three pick as well as the rights to Peter Matera's little brother Phil, and trading former club champion Craig Turley to Melbourne in a straight swap for the useful Andy Lovell. In addition, as result of the uncontracted Tony Godden signing with the Dockers, West Coast got a compensation selection which was used on young Victorian David Wirrpanda. Draft-wise, the Eagles' best work was done before the big day when they convinced Ben Cousins to sign as a father-son selection - the future champion was also eligible to go to Fremantle or Geelong.

On the down-side, the premiership sides of just a few years previously were beginning to be dismantled, with the retirements of Michael Brennan, Peter Wilson, Karl Langdon and Paul Harding as well as the departures of Turley and Hynes.
